CALD Letter to Senator Kiko Pangilinan

May 23, 2022

Hon. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan

Senator, Republic of the Philippines
Chairperson, Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats

Dear Senator Kiko:

These past months, Liberals and Democrats around the world have been observing what has been described as “the most consequential election” in recent Philippine history. Though the results did not favor us, we felt empowered witnessing how the pink revolution turned the Leni-Kiko campaign into a nationwide, people-centered movement.

We felt the enthusiasm of the people for change and the determination to fight with dignity throughout the campaign. It was a sight to behold. The rallying cry, “Sa Gobyernong Tapat, Angat Buhay Lahat” (Under an Honest Government, a Better Life for All), swept the hearts of ordinary Filipinos to contribute their personal time, effort, and resources and challenge the formidable money-driven political machinery of the dictator’s son.

We commend your and Vice President Robredo’s bravery, leadership, and firm resolve to stand up against the widespread disinformation and patronage politics that marked the campaign, and present an alternative vision of a government that truly works for the people. We know it would be an arduous fight from the start, but regardless of the election results, your campaign has ignited a special kind of energy among your people that cannot be easily extinguished during these difficult times. It will remain to be a force that seeks truth and justice, and creates ripples of hope and inspiration in the Philippines and beyond.

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to you, to Vice President Robredo and to your supporters for never giving up, for fighting the good fight, and for laying down the next steps forward for the Filipino people. We are one with you and the Vice President, in solidarity, and fully support the Angat Buhay (Uplift Lives) movement which hopes to fight disinformation and continue to serve Filipinos who live in the fringes of society.

On behalf of the CALD Member-Parties and its Executive Committee, we would like to say thank you, Senator Kiko, for continuing to inspire Filipinos to make a difference. With you and Vice President Robredo, we are hopeful that the Philippines that you and your people aspire for remains to be within reach. Please be assured that your CALD family is always on your side as you bring this vision of a better Philippines into reality.
