Independent Senator Francis ‘Kiko’ Pangilinan says that the massive outpouring of sympathy for the late President Cory Aquino is glaring proof that a vacuum of leadership exists in the country.
“This should serve as a grim reminder that we, the nation’s political leaders, have collectively failed to provide the leadership our people yearn for, that our nation sorely needs,” says Pangilinan. “As we grieve for the death of a great leader, we grieve as well for ourselves and our nation now bereft of genuine leadership.”
Former President Aquino’s wake reminds everyone of the country’s unity in toppling the Marcos dictatorship in the 80’s. Pangilinan hopes that in death, the former leader will unite the country once more towards progress and genuine change.
“May her death awaken our people, and give us all the courage to work towards the realization of genuine leadership and service for our nation.”
