KIKO TO GOV’T, MILF: GO BACK TO THE NEGOTIATING TABLE NOW

Independent Senator Kiko Pangilinan today reiterated his call for an immediate ceasefire and challenged the government peace panel, with its new head, and the MILF to resume peace talks.

“With the appointment of a new head for the peace panel, we hope that the government will take a different route in solving the problem in Mindanao. We’ve seen how aggression has ravaged Mindanao but did not end the war, it is high time we execute a sincere effort to talk peace with the MILF,” Kiko said.

Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Special Concerns Rafael Seguis, a veteran diplomat known for his work for the release of 2 Filipino hostages from insurgents in Iraq will replace Hermorgenes Esperon as representative to the Malaysian-brokered talks with the MILF.

“The Filipino nation is paying such attention such as high price for this war to continue. We have learned that Mindanao residents are united in wanting to end the war. Both camps should be mindful that innocent people’s lives are the most affected with this war they’re waging,” Kiko added.

“Peace is the only way we can spare innocent civilians from the war. We should revive negotiations. Let us not give up on Mindanao. This is not the kind of legacy we should leave to generations of Filipinos to come,” Kiko ended. ###
