Presidential Assistant for Food Security and Agricultural Modernization Kiko Pangilinan, together with NIA Administrator Florencio Padernal, led the ceremonial turnover of the completed projects. More than 1,400 IA members were present during the turnover. The event coincides with the first National Convention of Irrigators Association.

“The government is working double-time to give the much needed support to our farmers in feeding the nation. The NIA under the OPAFSAM will not tire until we reduce or eradicate the irrigation gap in the country,” said Presidential Assistant for Food Security and Agricultural Modernization Kiko Pangilinan.

Padernal on the other hand emphasizes the importance of a 10-year irrigation masterplan to address the backlog which is at 2.4 million hectares.

“After today’s mass turnover, about 57% of the total irrigable area of 6.1 million hectares are now with irrigation. And only 43% more has to be attended to. Hence, the 10-year irrigation masterplan to rationalize the implementation planning of irrigation facilities,” said Padernal.
