The anti-graft court Sandiganbayan should review the decision of its Fourth Division granting Janet Lim-Napoles and Masbate Governor Rizalina Seachon-Lanete P500,000 bail each for a plunder case involving the misuse of the latter’s pork barrel, senatorial re-electionist Francis Pangilinan said Wednesday.
“The granted bail of P500,000 pales in comparison to the amount of the alleged kickback involved of P108.4 million. Aside from this, the review should also check the ‘not strong’ evidence cited in the grant of bail,” Pangilinan said.
“This ruling sends a wrong signal to wrongdoers that they can commit immense crimes with little or no consequence. Injustice of this sort grates at the core of all Filipinos,” he added, urging the Office of the Ombudsman to ensure that the plunder cases it files in court have solid evidence.
