“HUNGER MAY HAVE EASED IN RP, BUT THERE’S NO REASON WHY PINOYS SHOULD BE HUNGRY AT ALL” – KIKO PANGILINAN
Independent senator and reforms advocate Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan today responds to recent SWS Survey results showing that the proportion of families experiencing involuntary hunger in the country has dropped to 15.5 % from a record-high of 23.7 % in the previous quarter.
“The results may show that hunger may have eased a little from the past quarter, but it is still very high. I am baffled at this because we rank high as a source of aquamarine resources in the world. We have vast agricultural lands. Why do we remain hungry?”
In his web journal kilosko.blogspot.com, Pangilinan mentions that the country’s diverse aquamarine ecosystem, if managed properly, will not only “feed our hungry people, but will be a source of huge revenue for the country.”
“We have an incredible amount of resources compared to our Asian neighbors. While this survey results should be welcome news, I refuse to accept that we as a nation should be hungry at all.”
