PRESIDENT Aquino is backing the bid of party-mate Sen. Francis Pangilinan for the Senate presidency, Malacañang said on Sunday.
Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda said in a radio interview that having allies as leaders in the Senate and the House of Representatives would assure the Aquino administration of support for its legislative agenda.
“It’s a party decision. This is the decision of the Liberal Party, and President Aquino is a member of the Liberal Party. So the Liberal Party will be backing and supporting Senator Pangilinan in his bid for the presidency,” Lacierda said.
When asked, he said that having allies in the top leadership of both Houses of Congress “would be good for the Aquino administration…to advance the government’s [legislative] agenda.”
“It would be good for the Aquino administration if they are friends and allies,” Lacierda said.
