MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Francis Pangilinan praised on Wednesday the decision of Department of Tourism (DoT) Undersecretary Vicente Romano III to resign over the controversial “Pilipinas Kay Ganda’’ tourism promotion logo of the DoT.

“The resignation of Usec Romano is an act worthy of praise. It was a laudable decision. He shows he has delicadeza (sense of propriety)  a rare move that many in the public sector can indeed learn from,’’ Pangilinan said.

Pangilinan said the Romano move shielded President Aquino from the controversy.

“It should serve as an example to others surrounding the President that they too should  be willing and ready to give uptheir positions if needed for the cause of public accountability,’’ he stressed.

Critics of the Aquino administration said that the Romano decision to quit the government service is diametrically opposed to continued stay in government of some ranking officials despite their having been pilloried over their inaction on the Aug. 23 bus hostage incident where eight Hong Kong tourists were killed.
