Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan on Thursday welcomed “with respect and humility” the Supreme Court’s dismissal of a petition challenging the June 3, 2026 Senate session, saying the ruling should put political disputes behind lawmakers and allow them to return their attention to the needs of the Filipino people.
“We acknowledge the Supreme Court’s ruling on the June 3 Senate session with respect and humility. The Court found no grave abuse of discretion and recognized that the session was consistent with the facts, the law, and established jurisprudence,” Pangilinan said in a statement.
“In the words of my Gen Z kids, ‘Move on na.’ Tuloy-tuloy na tayong magtrabaho,” he added.
The Supreme Court En Banc, in a resolution dated August 26, 2026 and released again today, October 1, 2026, dismissed the petition for certiorari filed by Atty. Valeriano S. Loon and Atty. Zigfred M. Diaz.
The petition questioned the actions of senators and other officials in connection with the June 3 session, alleging grave abuse of discretion.
In its resolution, the Court said the petitioners failed to sufficiently establish that the respondents committed grave abuse of discretion in holding the session, which, on the contrary, appeared to be “in accord with the facts and applicable law and jurisprudence.”
Pangilinan said the ruling presents an opportunity for the Senate to regain stability and concentrate on its legislative responsibilities rather than remain caught up in political disagreements.
“Dasurb ng kababayan natin ang mga lingkod-bayan na inuuna ang kapakanan nila kaysa sa personal na interes o tunggaliang pulitika,” he said.
He expressed hope that the Court’s decision would help restore stability in the Senate and enable lawmakers to focus on urgent national concerns, particularly reducing food prices, generating jobs, strengthening public services, and protecting Filipino families as the country prepares for the anticipated Super El Niño.
“Nawa’y ang desisyong ito ay makatulong para magbigay liwanag, magbalik ng katatagan, at mahayaan ang Senado na maka-focus sa mga kagyat nating tungkulin: pababain ang presyo ng pagkain, create jobs, palakasin ang mga serbisyo publiko, at protektahan ang mga pamilya, lalong-lalo na sa hinaharap na Super El Niño,” Pangilinan said.
He reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the Constitution, due process, and the welfare of the Filipino people: “Nananatili matibay na taguyod ang Senado ng Saligang-Batas, due process, at kagalingan ng tao.”
