MANILA, Philippines – Senators welcomed Edu Manzano’s entry into the race for vice president in next year’s elections, saying this would make the contest more exciting.

“Good luck. I wish them well,” said Senator Loren Legarda, who has declared her vice presidential bid in 2010.

Legarda is a member of the Nationalist People’s Coalition but she is reportedly running under the ticket of Senator Manny Villar’s Nacionalista Party (NP).

Villar remained mum, however, on his running mate, saying he will make the announcement on his full slate next week.

“Welcome naman. Magaling naman si Edu. Magiging exciting ang labanan sa pagka VP [It’s welcome. Edu is good. The race for VP will be exciting],” said Villar.

“Magandang team…Bagay sila [It’s a good team. They are suited for each other],” he said, referring to a Teodoro-Manzanao tandem for the administration.

Teodoro is outgoing Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro.

But Villar said his running mate was equally good and popular though he refused to identify him or her.

“Ia-aanounce next week. Halos buo na ang line up ng NP sa pagka-senador.Kumpleto na kami [It will be announced next week. The line up of NP is almost complete. We are complete already],” he said.

Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan also welcomed Manzano’s bid.

“Good luck sa aking kumpadre na si Edu Manzano. May the best man or woman win na lang,” Pangilinan said in a text message.
