MANILA, Philippines – Megastar Sharon Cuneta-Pangilinan admitted Thursday that she is hurting over the lack of support for her husband, Sen. Francis Pangilinan, in his bid to become Senate President.

In an interview, the award-winning actress said she felt as if she was being stabbed and slapped several times after her husband was rejected by other senators as a viable candidate for the Senate presidency.

She said what made it doubly painful is that her own uncle, Sen. Vicente “Tito” Sotto, has said he will not support Pangilinan’s bid. Cuneta earlier endorsed Sotto’s senatorial bid during the election.

“There’s a lot of drama going in the Senate na nasasaktan ako, like Sen. Tito na wala daw suporta kay Kiko. It’s just sad na mismong pamilya ko pa ang di makasuporta sa amin but I still respect him. I just want to make it clear I’m 150% behind my husband. As far as I’m concerned, he’s already the winner,” she told entertainment reporters.

Cuneta said Pangilinan was handpicked by President Benigno Aquino III as his choice for Senate President.

The Megastar said she did not lobby for her husband among the senators despite endorsing some of them during the election.

She also thanked Sen. Jinggoy Estrada for not wavering in his support for Pangilinan.

Pangilinan and Sen. Manny Villar are both vying for the position of Senate presidency. However, a group of 7 senators led by Sen. Edgardo Angara on Wednesday declared they would vote to re-elect Juan Ponce Enrile to the same position.
