KIKO FILES RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING SB19 FOR TAKING OPM TO LOLLAPALOOZA 2026
Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan filed a resolution congratulating and commending Filipino P-pop supergroup SB19 for becoming the first Filipino act to perform at Lollapalooza, one of the world’s largest and most influential music festivals.
Filed on Tuesday, August 4, Senate Resolution No. 573 honors SB19’s historic performance at Lollapalooza Chicago 2026 and recognizes the group’s role in bringing Original Pilipino Music (OPM) to a global audience.
SB19 is a five-member group composed of Pablo, Josh, Stell, Ken, and Justin. Touted as the “Kings of P-Pop,” the group pioneered the modern Filipino idol group movement and made history in 2021 as the first Filipino act nominated at the Billboard Music Awards under Top Social Artist.
“Their performance at Lollapalooza is a momentous occasion in celebrating Filipino excellence in music, arts, and dance,” Pangilinan said in the resolution. “It cements the global significance of Original Pilipino Music and highlights the impact of Filipino talent in the performing arts.”
On July 31, SB19 delivered a high-energy set at the Allianz Stage featuring hits like “GENTO” and “MAPA,” alongside a tribute performance of Francis Magalona’s “Mga Kababayan.”
Sharing the 2026 festival roster with global superstars like Jennie, Lorde, Charli XCX, and Tate McRae, SB19 showcased Original Pilipino Music before a global audience and demonstrated that Filipino artists can stand alongside the world’s biggest acts.
Beyond their artistic achievements, the senator also highlighted SB19’s heart for public service. The resolution recognized the group’s philanthropic work, including raising disaster relief funds, donating hospital gear during the COVID-19 pandemic, and supporting various charitable foundations.
Through Senate Resolution No. 573, Pangilinan reaffirmed the importance of supporting Filipino artists whose achievements inspire national pride and strengthen the country’s cultural presence on the world stage.
The measure also underscores the need to continue investing in the Philippine creative industries so that more Filipino talent can thrive internationally.
SB19’s trailblazing journey proves time and again that OPM belongs on the global stage—from earning a historic nomination at the Billboard Music Awards to becoming the only Southeast Asian act to perform twice on Japan’s “THE FIRST TAKE.”
Long before making history at Lollapalooza, the group had already earned international recognition by winning the Best Artist Award (Singer) and the AAA Hot Trend Award at the 2023 Asia Artist Awards. Together with their other historic achievements, these milestones have cemented SB19’s status as one of the foremost champions of Original Pilipino Music, whose success continues to elevate the global profile of Filipino artists and strengthen the Philippines’ standing in the global music industry.
